I finally got up the motivation to call Earthlink and Time Warner about setting up service in the new place.

---

Earthlink cable modem is apparently almost completely separate from the rest of Earthlink. She never even tried to look up my existing account, and they can't link the DSL account email addresses to cable account. Well, it can be done, but not initially. So I've got a new Earthlink cable email address that I hope never to have to use. She didn't say when it's active or anything like that. In fact as far as technical stuff she was a complete ditz. I guess they don't expect their sales people to have to answer questions like "What kind of hardware will I need?" or "Why can't I keep my old email address?" She was, however, very enthusiastic to tell me that a technician would call me within 72 hours to set up installation, and that he'd be able to answer all my questions, and that if we couldn't come to an acceptable solution I can cancel the order and keep DSL or dialup. She did have a good promotion that involved half off the first 3 months, and afterward the regular cost is lower than our current DSL bill, plus there's no length of service requirement of any sort, so that's not so bad.

I've also got an appointment to have the Time Warner installed on Dec 12 from 1-3pm. We have to be home in person to pay the fee up front or something stupid like that, but whatever. Then she got really confused when I mentioned getting Earthlink cable modem, and tried to set up an appointment for that. But she eventually figured it out and said we didn't have to do anything special through Time Warner, that Earthlink would take care of it all if we had already talked to them.

I guess as far as utilities goes, all that's left is to go pick out cell phones, call the power company, and mail the form to the water company (which I've got ready to go). Oh, yeah, and cancel all the services here. I want to go ahead and get the cell phones so that I can start giving out the new number to people, especially on those job applications and resumes that I've been trying so hard to get out.

If anybody's got any suggestions for cellular service we're interested in what you have to say. We've talked to Cingular, Verison, and Alltel, and favor Verison, which has more services included in the basic packages, or Alltel because it's less expensive but still has reasonable plans.
