I don't usually do these, but this one amused me, so here we go...

Friday Five

When was the last time you...

1. ...sent a handwritten letter? I don't write a lot of hand written letters, I like to send cards and I always include a handwritten note. Also if I'm mailing something to someone I usually add a handwritten note. The last big letter I remember sending that was handwritten was right after then Columbine thing. I had some things to say to my old school system about how they dealt with a certain situation that happened when I was a sophomore. My point was that in that situation things could have easily escalated to violence and the school system did little more to help me and my friends than laugh and say something to the effect of "Kids are mean, just ignore them." That letter was handwritten. It just didn't feel like something I should type out.

2. ...baked something from scratch or made something by hand? I like to bake, but it's almost always from a mix or from a very easy recipe. I baked a batch of peanut butter cookies from scratch last Wednesday. 3 ingredients. Sugar, peanut butter, egg. I won an award in second grade in 4-H for my biscuits. ;-) The last thing I made, hrm... I started and finished a knitted hat in a couple of days last week. I'm working on a knitted sweater right now. I'm nearly done with the back! I've promised to make George a sweater too, but I don't have the yarn for it yet. On the non-knitting, non-food front I'm not sure what the last thing I made was. I painted some flowerpots recently. I have a project in mind to work on soon. I want to build an exercise step. The cinder block (sp?) that we use is vastly inadequate. I've got the plan worked out for how to do it, and we looked at wood last night. It'll come along soon. :)

3. ...camped in a tent? That would be at the end of May. I went with my folks to Williamsburg. Did you know that we got a tent for Christmas of 2000, and we've camped in it rather frequently. Furthermore, we've never set up that tent when it didn't rain on us at least a little. More commonly, we get fierce downpours with the use of the tent. Come to think of it, maybe we should start camping around in this area. We're having a horrid drought, and mandatory water restrictions. If we camped around here, one of two things would happen, and either would be good. We'd get rain which would help the drought, or we'd get to camp in the dry. :-) More likely we'd bring the rain, but hey, that's helping a whole region.

4. ...volunteered your time to church, school, or community? I've been sad about my lack of volunteering lately. I haven't done anything much since I worked for a few months in a homeless shelter when I was 19. I've got to get back to that.

5. ...helped a stranger? I helped a lady rescue a little bird a couple months ago on campus. I try to help people, but I'm so shy that I'm not much good at it. I'll offer directions, or help someone find what they're looking for in the grocery store, but that's about it.
