artisanal_xaraEarlier today someone posted a rather offensive, sexually explicit joke in the cooking journal. And while it did describe a certain food preparation method, the point was certainly not to prepare the food, but rather to draw pictures of it which were just as sexually explicit (even they were supposedly of food) as the joke. I replied to it, saying that it should be removed, either by the poster or by the maintainer of the community. The guy who posted it responded to my comment saying that it was a perfectly valid recipe, and that if I was offended I shouldn't read it. Furthermore, he insisted that if anyone removed his post he would leave the community on the grounds that it was censorship.
By the time I got the email of his response and looked back at the journal, his post was gone, and he is no longer listed as a member of the community. I rather hope that he was banned, not given the chance to leave on his own.
That's not even the first time this guy has made some nasty comments. He and some other members of the community started poking fun at 'retards' a month or two ago. Most of the others involved apologized and promised to be more cautious about inappropriate or off topic subjects.
I may say offensive things at times, and swear or say socially inappropriate things, but if I do so, I do it in a private forum, and not a public community that is supposed to be about cooking. Not in a community with over 400 members. If he got banned, and if I had any hand in expediting the process, I'm quite pleased with myself.
