Jun. 6th, 2002 11:15 amLive Journal is an unsatisfying experience. Wait a minute, did anyone ever say LJ was supposed to be satisfying.
Now, lets think about it for a minute. Has any good come from reading LJ? Well, maybe.
- I might not have met up with Ryan even though we had a class together.
- I almost assuredly wouldn't know Chris.
- We probably wouldn't know about Catt reunions.
- I wouldn't know where Joyce is, much less have had he chance to see her last week.
- I wouldn't have a place (
h34lth) to vent about my exercise triumphs and woes.
- I wouldn't have learned all those recipes from
cooking.
See, so I guess it's not all that bad. But I maintain that on a daily basis LJ is an unsatisfying experience.
addition
- Homemade yogurt!!!!!

Date: 2002-06-06 09:15 am (UTC)I read people's journals, and get all caught up in things I have no direct connection with, from people I don't even know. I waste an hour at minimum each day, and on the whole I get little from it. Yesterday I got mad at one of my "friends" for an opinion she expressed and removed her from my friends list. But I've never met her, have no direct communication with her, don't agree with most of the things she says, and will probably never have any non-LJ communication of any sort with her. So why the hell should I care what her opinion on that particular topic is?
Also, I worry about every little unprotected thing I say. I say my cat is cute without labeling it friends only and worry that the stalkers will be able to read damaging information from that. I don't know how good LJ security is, so maybe even my friends only stuff is available to the criminals. I'm sure there's plenty of damaging info they could glean from those posts. Granted I'd be less paraniod about that sort of thing if we hadn't had that fraud scare last summer. I can't decide if I'm too paranoid or not paraniod enough.
So I guess my main issue with LJ is that it doesn't really compare to having real friends. Even though most of what I post is for myself, and others ability to read it is just an odd little side effect, I somehow expect to gain a deeper understanding of the universe from what other people say. That doesn't happen very often. An evening out with friends is a generally more satisfying experience than a weeks's worth of LJ.
